Introduction

1. I have been married over four decades. Both my parents and my in-laws were married over six decades and my brother has been married over six decades. Between us there is over two-hundred and twenty years of marriage that stood the test of time. There is one common thread that has run through all of our marriages and that common thread is faithfulness.

2. You have heard it said many times that the foundation of marriage is trust. Once one spouse loses trust in another one, things can go sideways in a hurry. I am now convinced that trust is essential to not just a marriage, but a true, strong, productive relationship. Trust is built on the foundation of faithfulness. I am not just talking about sexual faithfulness. I am talking about financial faithfulness, emotional faithfulness, faithfulness to tell the truth, and to hear it.

3. It is why I tell my wife every night before I go to bed, ''I've always been faithful to you.'' the wisest man who ever lived asked this question thousands of years ago, ''many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find?'' I made up my mind from the day I took my marriage vows I wanted to be that faithful person.

4. We are in a series we have been calling ''mirror image'' asking the question if you looked into a mirror that showed what you looked like on the inside, rather than on the outside, what would you see? What character traits would you have and what character traits would be missing? We have been identifying the building blocks that go into constructing that house.

5. We are going to look at the greatest revealers of character and one of the greatest developer of character and that is ''faithfulness.''
