In William Shakespeare's play Macbeth, Lady Macbeth heard a prophecy that her husband would become king so she convinced him to assassinate the reigning king. When he did, he was conscience-stricken with guilt so she helped him cover up the crime. He was crowned king, but she was filled with remorse and became mentally unstable and couldn't stop washing her hands. She said, ''Will these hands ne'er be clean?''

Guilt is an emotion that can weigh us down so it stops any spiritual growth in our lives. Satan does not want you to feel forgiven, but guilty. Jesus died for all of your sins so that you can be forgiven if you believe his sacrifice was all that God required.

Thomas Adams - ''Sins are so remitted as if they had never been committed.'' Remitted comes from the Latin word meaning to send back or relax. In English it means to refrain from punishment which is to forgive and pardon instead of punish.

Sacrifices As you read the OT there is one reoccurring theme: because man is sinful he was required to offer an animal sacrifice for his sin.

A sacrifice is defined as: offering up something to God as an atonement for sin or to express gratitude. Sacrifices were a continual reminder that the people were always in need of forgiveness for their sins. There was never a time when there was no more need for another sacrifice to be offered. Man was continually in debt to God for his sin so he had to continually offer another sacrifice.

ONE PERFECT SACRIFICE :11-14 Many sacrifices :11 Numbers 28:3-4 You are to present to the Lord: two lambs a year old without defect, as a regular burnt offering each day. Prepare one lamb in the morning (9 am) and the other at twilight (6 pm). That requirement meant 14 sacrifices were offered each week.
