I. Introduction

This is the second week of our Chasing Peace series. And here's what we know so far:

- We know that peace is never a product of our circumstances. Even if every circumstance in your life right now is perfect, you're not going to be ''at peace'' because you're going to be worried that things are going to change...and they are. That's inevitable. So peace is never a product of our circumstances.

- Second, we know that peace is always a by-product of the pursuit of godly character. Peace is something we experience as we're moving towards godly character, as we're becoming more like Jesus. And as that's happening, we begin to experience a peace that's independent of our circumstances. And that's what this series is about: it's about experiencing peace by pursuing godly character. And our guide for that pursuit is Proverbs 6:16:

There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him:

haughty eyes,

a lying tongue,

hands that shed innocent blood,

a heart that devises wicked schemes,

feet that are quick to rush into evil,

a false witness who pours out lies

and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.

[leave text up for this whole section] And as we said last week, God hates these things because He loves us. He hates these things because He knows how much damage these things to do us and, through us, to other people that He loves. He hates these things because he knows that these are peace-killers. So if we want to stop pushing peace out and start pulling peace in to our lives, what we want to do is start pursuing the opposite of each of these things.

Now, last week, we talked about experiencing peace through the pursuit of humility, the opposite of haughty eyes. This week, we're going to talk about experiencing peace by pursuing truth. And this is a big one. I kno ...
