I'm a big fan of Twitter because I like to hear what others have to say. For example, a lady who goes by @mommajessiec posted this the other night:
''Prayers for my husband who very tragically got me nothing for our anniversary, when I specifically told him I wanted nothing for our anniversary.''
I don't care who you are, that's funny! Our middle daughter who lives in Brownsburg has a book on children's prayers. While we were at her house on Friday she shared a few of them with us.
Dear God: Last year I asked for a little brother for Christmas. Can I trade him in for a puppy?
Dear God: I'd like to be just like my Dad when I get big ... except minus the back hair.
Dear God: My brother's a rat. You should give him a tail!
Dear God: I read the Bible every day. What does the word ''begat'' mean? My Mom won't tell me.
I hope our study on prayer has provided more information than that little girl got out of her mother! Today we're gonna talk about a neglected aspect of prayer. The first two parts of the Lord's Prayer deal with areas where we spend the majority of our time.
Jesus taught the Twelve to focus on God. So, we focus on who He is: He's our Father. We focus on what He is: He's hallowed, holy. And we focus on how He is: it's his kingdom and he's in charge.
Then, Jesus says to ask for help. So, we recognize His abilities: he gives us. We realize our dependency: he provides us every single day. And we relay our requests: simple things, like our daily bread.
Several years ago, Celeste Strickler had surgery at the Crawfordsville hospital. Mike and Celeste asked me to be there and to pray. I've done it a million times (and I'm not exaggerating!). Anyway, the Dr. walked in and he asked to join us. I know him. His children were on the track team at the high school when I was the assistant coach and I thought it was awesome that he wanted to be included. After ...
