Find the book of Job in your Bible. Today, from Job 20-26, I'm preaching a sermon entitled, Why Doesn't God Step In? We've been studying the book of Job for a few weeks and we have seen this righteous man suffer greatly. Job seemingly had it all, then he lost it all; but through it all he didn't lose his faith in God. Certainly there were moments of doubts, frustration, and anger. But Job didn't give up hope; even though he felt like God had abandoned him. READ 23:1-12
Why doesn't God step in? Have you ever asked that question? Maybe you're going through a difficult time and you wish God would just step in and make it all go away. That's the way Job felt. He wondered if God had abandoned him. He wondered why God wouldn't take the pain away. He wondered why he was suffering so greatly.
As I think about Job's question, I think about my responsibility as a parent. Is it my job to always bail my children out of their troubles? When they're young, sure we try to help them make the right choices and avoid the dangers of life. But there comes a time when you have to let them make their own decisions and endure the consequences.
*You can even see this, in a small way, when it comes to the sports they play. When our kids were younger, they played t-ball here at Victory Sports. And my job as the coach (and the dad) was to be right beside them. To help the hit off the tee, to help them field the ball, and to encourage them in the field. I was right there next to them. As they grow older, my job changed. I couldn't be right beside them the whole time. I was still there, but it was now their job to hit the ball, field the ball, and make the play. What if, when they were older, they made an error in the field and then looked at me and said, ''Dad, that's your fault, you should've been there right beside me!'' I think I would've said something like, ''I worked hard to train y ...
