Intro/Attention

This morning, we conclude our series through the Old Testament book of Job. It's hard to believe we're almost finished. There were some moments I thought we might not make it to the end. There were some days where I was working on a sermon only to hear from Job's three friends again and I wasn't sure we'd be able to finish. But, congratulations to you! We made it.

This morning, take your Bible and turn to Job 42. I'm preaching on this subject, A New Beginning. I know that's a strange title for the ending of a series, but I believe it is very appropriate for today's passage. Let me see if I can summarize the story of Job.

Job was a righteous man who had it all; a successful business, lots of land and possessions, a beautiful family, prominence and success. And in one moment, Job lost everything. I don't know how one man could endure what Job went through. All of his possessions...gone. All of his prominence...gone. Even his children...gone. But the Bible says that Job maintained his ''integrity.''

Much of the book of Job contains conversations about people trying to make sense of suffering. Job's friends are no help. They blame Job and assume he had done something horribly wrong to suffer such a fate. But God makes it clear; Job wasn't suffering because of some secret sin in his life. All of this brings us to chapter 42, which brings our story to a close. READ 42:7-13
