Galatians 1:6-12
Introduction
1. There is a website called ''ranker.com'' in which you can go and vote for who you believe is the most influential person in history. I went and cast my vote and sixty-percent of the people agreed with me that the most influential person in history is Jesus Christ. If Jesus Christ is the most influential person of all time, I would have to argue that the second most influential person of all time would very well be a man by the name of Paul. Why Paul?
2. Some scholars have claimed that Paul should be understood as ''the second founder of Christianity.'' what they mean is that Christianity is more than just the teachings of Jesus; it is really about the Jesus who taught. More than any other person, it was Paul who shifted the focus of Christianity, from the proclamation of Jesus, to the proclamation about Jesus.
3. He wrote thirteen of the twenty-seven books of the new testament, became the preeminent theologian of the early church and the greatest missionary the world has ever seen. He singlehandedly transformed Christianity from a Jewish faith only, to a faith that included both Jews and gentiles, and made Christianity open to everyone, everywhere, at every time.
4. The four gospels tell us about the Jesus that Christians follow, but the apostle Paul was the one that told us what it means to follow Jesus. Jesus said the number one goal of both the church corporate and Christians individually is to make disciples. No one more carefully explained, both theologically and practically what it means to be a disciple.
5. I decided it would be great for us to spend a year with Paul. We are going to call the next twelve months, ''the year of disciple.'' our mission statement is ''to point people to Jesus (that is evangelism) and inspire them to live the cross-shaped life (that is discipleship.)
