Galatians 6:1-2
Introduction
1. It can happen to anybody. It can happen to the best of us. It happened to a man that I pastored who was one of my dearest friends. It was a friend that would go to youth camp with us and would be the camp director. He was a man that I would have trusted with my life. In a weak moment in his life, he got caught in the wrong place, at the wrong time, attempting to do the wrong thing and he wound up in prison. I testified at his trial as a character witness. What he did was wrong and he deserved to go to prison, but as it has been said, ''next mistake the moment for the man.'' I knew this moment did not represent this man; nevertheless, he fell, caught in a trap and he went to prison.
2. It happened to two of my closest relatives. Neither one is what you would call a ''hardened criminal.'' to their friends and their family, they were known as good people. Both got caught up in a momentary lapse of poor judgment and fell into a sin and because of that one of them died in prison and one spent ten years of his life in prison.
3. In all three of those situations, one is a pastor and one is a very close relative. I was faced with a decision, ''what am I going to do about it?'' how am I going to handle it? What did all three of those people need from me the most? What did all three of those men need from the church at most? That is the subject of the sermon today. [turn to Galatians 6].
4. We are in a series in the book of Galatians that we are calling ''free at last.'' it is a letter written by Paul to a church of young Christians who are being influenced by legalistic hypocrites, holier-than-thou's that love to sit in judgment on other people whenever they fell into a ditch of failure and sin.
5. Galatians was written to show how we are not only free from having to keep rules and regulations to be right to god, but just as importantly we are ...
