The Discipline Of God's Word

INTRODUCTION: It would be difficult to decide between prayer and study of God's Word as to which one is more important. Both of these disciplines are critical in establishing and maintaining an intimate personal relationship with God. They are the two daily disciplines which provide the foundation- for every other area of our Christian walk. When they are present or weak, then we are vulnerable to defeat and compromise.

- apathy or rejection of God's word

- in accordance with Satan's activity

THE MODEL OF JESUS
Luke 2:47 - At the age of twelve, Jesus was aggressively learning the Scriptures.
Luke 4 - The basis for Jesus' victory over Satan was His knowledge and ry of Scripture.
Mark 12:34 - Jesus' understanding of the Scriptures gave Him a basis of true authority in teaching the people as well as the ability to detect and refute false religions.
Matthew 4:4 - Jesus prioritized knowing every detail of God's word above eating for physical nourishment. (John4 - Jesus demonstrates this same priority in doing God's will before He cared for His own needs.)
John 5:30 - Jesus based every action, word and deed in His life by God's word. He initiated nothing apart from God's objective and subjective guidance.

I. The Power of God's Word

Hebrews 4:12 - For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and (is) a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. (KJV)
