(A Sobering View of Reality)
INTRODUCTION: Paul is using a language of contrast to paint a fuller picture of reality. His purpose is:
a. To build an awareness of reality - most important question: ''What is reality?''
b. To build an appreciation for God and salvation - greatest danger: forget where we came from and where we were brought - Revelation 2:5
c. To provide an indicator for us to measure - where we are in view of reality (scale of experience)
d. To encourage us to live to the fullest potential we have in Christ - define our potential (both good and evil)
1. Contrasting our POSITION - Vs. 1,2 - Vs. 5,6 - Satanic oppression vs. supernatural authority (from a grave in hell to a throne in heaven)
- dead because of our sins
- powerless against pressures of world, domination of Satan
- now we have received authority to rule and reign
