The Significance Of Motherhood
Jimmy Evans
Luke 1:26-38

Introduction: One of the most astounding points in Scripture is the fact that Jesus Christ was born into this world as a human. Literally, God became man.

Mary, a young Jewish woman, literally became the mother of God. This not only distinguishes her as an eternally blessed and sacred woman, but it also speaks of the sacred calling of motherhood. This being Mothers Day, we will look at the story of Mary and Jesus and what it points out concerning the significance of motherhood.

THE FIVEFOLD SIGNIFICANCE OF MOTHERHOOD

1. MOTHERHOOD IS A HIGH CALLING FROM GOD TO WOMEN

- vs. 28 - The angel's greeting to Mary ''Hail, highly favored one.''
- Every mother is carrying a child of God, not just Mary.

QUOTE FROM THEODORE ROOSEVELT:

''When all is said, it is the mother and the mother only, who is a better
citizen than the soldier who fights for his country. The successful
mother, the mother who does her part in rearing and training aright the
boys and girls, who are to be the men and women of the next generation, is of greater use to the community, and occupies, is she would only realize it, a more honorable as well as more important position that any man in it The mother is the asset of the initial life. She
is more important, by far, than the successful statesman, or businessman, or artist, or scientist.''

MARY RECEIVED HER CALL FROM GOD:

Luke 1:38 Then Mary said, ''Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.'' And the angel departed from her. (NKJV)

THE KEYS TO MARY RECEIVING THE HIGH CALLING OF MOTHERHOOD

A. Mary was a servant of God. ''Behold, the bondslave''
B. She was willing to receive His will for her. ''Let it be done....''
C. . Mary received her sense of self esteem and fulfillment from God
and His eternal will for her.

- vs. 48 - ''From this time forth all generation will call me blessed''
