The Proof of the Prophet

Mark 8:3
Introduction: One of the most important issues related the resurrection of Jesus was the fact that He predicted it. Not only did He teach His disciples (Mark 8:31) openly about His death and resurrection, but He also prophesied to the people of Israel that He would be killed and would be raised from the dead after three days. Matt. 27:63 records the words of the chief priests and Pharisees to Pilate, ''Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, 'After three days I will rise.' '' (NKJV)
One of the truths about Jesus which is very relevant to the story of His resurrection as well as the days we live in is the fact that Jesus is the greatest prophet of all times. His prophecies dwarf those of any other so called prophet. They distinguish Christianity and the Bible from all other religions. No one has ever accurately predicted His own resurrection or the many other things Jesus has prophesied.
1. THE PROOF OF JESUS' PROPHETIC MANTLE
1. PAST PROPHECIES - A. Death, resurrection (Mk. 8:31)
B. Destruction of Jerusalem - Mt. 24:2 (A.D. 70 - Roman Emperor Titus)
Some might refute the past prophecies of Jesus, but what nails down the authenticity of His prophetic mantle is the rest of Mt. 24.
2. PRESENT DAY PROPHECIES - Matthew 24:3-12
- False Christs
- wars and rumors of wars
- famines
- pestilences
- earthquakes in various places
- persecution and anti-Christian spirit on the earth
- false prophets will rise and deceive many
- lawlessness will abound and the love of many will grow cold (like reading todays newspapers)
Note: Besides the prophecies of Jesus, Ezekiel, Daniel, Revelation and other prophetic books in the Bible contain many prophecies we see coming true before our eyes. Examples: Revived Roman Empire - European Community (Daniels prophecy of anti-Christ and peace treaty) Russia - Vladimir Zhirinovsky (David Frost) (Ezekiels prophecy of God/ Magog invasion ...
