Introduction: Since prophetic ministry has such tremendous potential for blessing as well as destruction, we must recognize the fact that biblical restraints and parameters make the difference in how prophecy will be used. The most clear text we have in Scripture dealing with the parameters of prophetic ministry is found in I Corinthians chapter 14. Here Paul gives us parameters for prophetic ministry in regard to three main areas. They are:
I. WORDS OF PROPHECY
- Paul's parameters on the message
a. verses 1 and 4 - The prophecy will be brought in a spirit of love for the purpose of edification.
b. verse 3 - The prophecy must either edify, exhort or console.
c. verses 7 thru 9 - The prophecy must be brought in a clear and understandable
manner.
d. verse 22 - The prophecy is directed toward believers.
