How God Leads today (8 of 8)
Trying to understand God's Will
David Cawston
I am totally confused? How do I find the will of God
for my life? I cannot tell you how many times people
have said those words to me!
Should I marry Jane?
Should I take this Job and move?
Should I go into the ministry?
Should I buy this house? Etc.
God has spelled out many of His directives very
clearly in scripture, but many things we grapple with
are not specifically dealt with in His Word.
You've got a son who excels in a particular sport and
several fine universities have offered him
scholarships. Which school should he chose?
You are single and dating, praying for God to lead you
to the right mate for your life. But there is nothing
in the Bible that states "Marry John" or "Don't marry
Shirley"! God give you general principals in His
Word-for example "Do not be unequally yoked together
with unbelievers"- but we have to apply them.
We sincerely want these decisions in our lives to be
in accordance with the will of God. Deep within, we
wish His specific directives would be spelled out in
Scripture.
We don't want to miss God's best for our lives.
But part of God's plan is to teach you walk in
obedience to His Word, to walk by faith and learn to
know His voice, and to teach you about himself!
I. Prerequisites for following the will of God
1. First you must be a Christian!
Rom 8:14
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these
are sons of God.
NKJV
Only the Believer has the Spirits presence within, and
we must have this inside help if we are going to
follow the God's will!
2. Second you must be wise!
Eph 5:15-17
15 Be very careful, then, how you live-not as unwise
but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity,
because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be
foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. NIV
Following the will of God requires wisdom, clear
thinking, ...
