I John 3:1-10

Introduction:
John challenges us to live righteously as a result of God at work in us!
Righteousness is a Spiritual work!
It happens on the inside!
When we work with the Spirit of God there is a change that happens on the inside that brings about a change on the outside.

John 1:12
12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name. (KJV)

1849 exousia (ex-oo-see'-ah);
KJV-- authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength.

God is Love and is the source of true love! (read verse 1)

That Love has changed us into His children.
We were adopted into the family of God because of His Love
He paid the price for our adoption!
We are becoming like Him as we continue in Him.

I. God Purpose in You-
A. He wants to Change us into His likeness! (read verse 2)
-We are now the Children of God!
You don't earn that status it is given to you freely by God!
-We are not yet though completed becoming what He ultimately want us to be!
-His ultimate purpose is to make us like Him!

B. Work with Him! (read verse 3)
-Keep working with Him in the process of purifying your life from old ways of the world because you know what He is wanting to do!

C. Don't keep living in sin. (read verses 4-6)
-Sin is lawlessness.
Understand that Law is built on the character and nature of God!
This is the problem with our understanding of law today.
Law today is built on precedent. There are no absolutes!
God never changes!

James 1:17
17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (NIV)

-He took away your sins! Period
He paid the price and give you the power to overcome sin.

-Sin is the power that prevents you from change.
