''Speak the Truth'' Exod 20:16 16 ''You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. (NIV)
This commandment first talks about the sins of the tongue.
James 3:5-6 5 Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. (NIV) Through the sins of the tongue great damage can be done! All of these things are covered in this law for success. - False testimony against your neighbor. - False testimony in favor of your neighbor. - Telling lies This is covered in Lev 19:11 11 'You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another. (NAS) - Defamation of Character - Flattery - Hypocrisy Truthfulness is the intent of this 9th command! Solomon wrote in Proverbs 6:16-19 16 There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 (1)haughty eyes, (2)a lying tongue,(3) hands that shed innocent blood, 18 (4)a heart that devises wicked schemes,(5) feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 (6)a false witness who pours out lies and(7) a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.(NIV)
