Introduction: In the world of pro-basketball the three-peat of the Chicago Bulls has dominated the sports news. The word dynasty has appeared once again. However you can be assured that other teams will be working hard to see that does not take place. Ii is interesting to note that most dynasties do not fall from pressure from without but from problems from within. There is a delicate balance between the seasoned veterans who have a perspective and youth who bring passion and zest. The same thing is true for every type of community. It is usually not the pressure from without but the problems from within that cause the movement to lose its sense of purpose, being, and direction.

God's agenda has always been to bring people into community together; while Satan's agenda has always been to disrupt the community. Last Sunday we looked at how the community was attacked in the matter of integrity in Acts 5. Tonight we turn our attention to Acts 6 and examine the second attack. This time it centers on the core value of the church. What makes the church what it is for many people is the fact that it is the place where their needs are met. They may be physical, spiritual, emotional, or relational. Problems develop from within when we (1) fail to meet needs, or (2) meet needs in the wrong way.


An Examination Of the Problem (v1)
1. Surface problem. The widows of the Hellenistic Jews living outside of Palestine were being overlooked in the daily serving of food. This was a very legitimate physical need.
2. Root problem. The deeper problem was one of mistrust as demonstrated by the use of the word complaint. It reminds us of what took place in the OT as the children of Israel murmured against the leadership. It seems only to occur when there is mistrust.
