You may have heard this before but I think it bears repeating: Politicians and diapers have one thing in common: they should both be changed regularly... and for the same reason.

*This years election is one of the most highly contested I can remember. It's not hard to see that people across America are greatly divided. Newspapers, radio talk shows, and TV news anchors all seem to have no problem proclaiming which candidate they are backing. Tempers are hot and emotions are high. This year it seems personal. And this year, it seems a bit more muddied. Things don't seem as clear. There's not one godly candidate at the top of the ticket. By the way, one of the ways that God judges a nation is by giving them exactly what they ask for. That's where we are as a country I believe.*

Now it is important to understand that every person that goes to votes uses some type of criteria to determine whom they will vote for.

Some, as always vote according to party lines.

Others vote based on who they think will benefit them the most.

Still others will vote on personal convictions.

Some look for character.

Others vote based on personality.

Some, sadly, will vote on prejudice.

My question tonight is this ''What criteria should a Christian use in determining who we should vote for?'' In other words, ''How should I vote?'' I'm glad you asked, because tonight, I'm going to tell you how to vote. Not who to vote for...but how to vote. There's a difference!

As your pastor, I would suggest to you that the major criteria we should use in voting for a candidate is the criteria of ''stewardship.'' A steward is a ''person entrusted with the management of the affairs of others.''
