For the next several weeks, I will be sharing with you some foundational messages from the scripture that will form the bedrock for our journey together. You may not hear anything new, but maybe the way we will 'put it together' as God's family will have a uniqueness that is fresh and 'spiritual'. I pray these will form our foundation.
To be on same spiritual page, we need have a clear picture in our minds of what we are doing. It's like building a house. Jesus ended His famous ''Sermon on the Mount'' with the story of the 'wise' and 'foolish' man. All of us know that story. The foolish man cut corners, didn't spend the money and time required to build a house that would stand in the face of the storm. The wise man cut no corners, he did what was necessary and, as you know His house stood up to the storm.
If you can see the parallel, my heart's desire is for us, as His church, to cut no corners with the gospel. We can take the great heritage of this church, the past successes, and the strength, marry them in pray to the Father, and overcome any difficulties if we build on the right foundation. THIS is what these two weeks are about.
Last week, I spoke (rather quickly) on the topic of ''A Magnetic Church.'' The Bible message pointed us to 'Loving God, our neighbors, one another, and even our enemies.'' It is the first two of these that James calls ''The Royal Law.'' It is called ''The Great Commandment.'' I get it - many of us know and understand these truths, but where the water meets the wheel is not how much of scripture we know, rather, it is how much we do. You see, there are people who can recite long portions of scripture, but the essence of scripture has never impacted their lives. (the Pharisees in Jesus day who could recite from memory the 'torah.') Love is something you DO! It is the first PILLAR forming the bedrock of our foundation.
