1. Much like our day, Isaiah chapter six was a time of much uncertainty and apprehension. As Isaiah states in the opening verse, their beloved king had died.
2. Although later disciplined by God for disobeying Him, Uzziah was one of Judah's greatest leaders. Under his rule, he brought unprecedented prosperity and security to Judah.
3. Now he is dead, and the nation is mourning. No doubt, the people wondered what the future held. No doubt, there was uncertainty and apprehension.
4. However, in that hour of national concern and the death of Uzziah, Isaiah says that he ''saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple'' (6:1). THE THRONE ON EARTH WAS EMPTY, BUT THE THRONE IN HEAVEN WAS STILLED OCCUPIED.
5. In a time when there was so much uncertainty, there was this certainty; GOD WAS ON THE THRONE. This we know and can rejoice in, the throne in heaven will never be empty. God IS and will ALWAYS be on His throne.
6. His hand is on the wheel and throttle. He is in charge. He rules and reigns over all things and all times. He sees and oversees all the affairs of both this world and all mankind. He has not stepped down nor stepped aside. HE IS ON THE THRONE.
7. This is what keeps us strong. This is what keeps us from being overwhelmed and overcome. This is what strengthens our faith and settles our fears; to know that God is on His throne.
8. Isaiah's experience had a tremendous affect upon him.
He saw the Lord (An upward look)
He saw Himself (An inward look)
He saw Others (An outward look)
