Memorial Meal

Exodus 12:1-14 and Luke 22:14-20
Holidays help us remember a significance event in our past such as: Thanksgiving, Christmas or anniversary. The fourth of July is day the United States celebrates their Independence from England.
The Declaration of Independence adopted on the fourth day of July in 1776 stated that the thirteen American colonies were now independent states and no longer under the authority or rule of the British Empire. This day is remembered as the beginning of our country as a free and independent nation.
Passover The Jewish Passover was a festival of their freedom from slavery in Egypt and beginning as a nation. The meal was a reminder of their freedom which was given to them by the grace of God.
Background God had brought nine plagues on the land of Egypt because Pharaoh would not let the Israelites leave. He had threatened one final plague of killing the firstborn of all the Egyptians (11:5).
The Passover was a family meal observed at the beginning of Israel's religious calendar which celebrated their deliverance from slavery in Egypt and their beginning as a nation who belonged to God who had delivered them.
FIRST PASSOVER Exodus 12:1-14 From this night forward the Hebrew calendar would be arranged to show this important event. This would be the first month of their year which would be late March or early April on our calendar.
Instructions about the Lamb :3-7 The specific detailed instructions about keeping this memorial were important. Every detail was important for them to remember how they were delivered from slavery by the gracious and mighty hand of God who was keeping his promise to make them a nation.
