Series:Habakkuk: Trusting God in Uncertain Times
Stephen Whitney
Habakkuk 2:1-4
The one thing that God requires of us is faith which believes God will do what he said he would do. God asked Noah to build an ark to save his family from a flood, even though it had never rained.
God asked Abraham to believe he would be the father of a great nation even though he didn't have a son and he was 75 years old.
God asks us to trust him through the uncertainties of life: - A family crisis - divorce, separation. - A health crisis - cancer, heart problem - Death of a loved one - family or friend - Loss of your job - uncertain future - Betrayed or rejected by a friend
Thomas Watson - ''Faith, though it hath sometimes a trembling hand, it must not have a withered hand, but must stretch.'' God asks us to trust him completely and without reservation.
God asks Habakkuk to trust him even though things seem upside down as the wicked Babylonians are destroying one nation after another and will soon also destroy the nation of Judah.
WAITING ON GOD :1 He will wait like a watchman to see how God will answer his complaint about the injustice of Babylon. He believes God will indeed answer him so he is willing to wait for an answer. Waiting on God shows you believe he cares about you. Waiting on God shows courage that he is in control. Waiting on God shows faith that he is working out his plan. Waiting on God shows patience that he is sovereign.k
While he is waiting, he will think about how he will respond to the answer God gives him because we don't always get the answer we want. Humility is accepting the answer God gives us, even if it is not what we expected or wanted. Application 1. When we don't understand what God is doing, we have to trust his perfect character which is holy and just, not our feelings.
2. We need to be humble and wait for God to answer us, not demand an answer when we want it. Waiting shows our faith.
