Today I'm kicking off a new series, Called. It's a topic I'm super passionate about. I love to teach everything in the Bible, but I get really excited when I talk about this subject matter. I'm talking about the power of the local church. The reason I am so enthusiastic is because people's lives can be transformed by God's work through the local church.
When the church is doing what God has purposed it to do, life change happens. People come to know the Savior. People's marriages are put back together. People's addictions are broken, and God's work flourishes. God wants every single one of us to be a part of His church, and God wants us to be a part of what He's doing. I want to invite you today to take out your notes and follow along with where we're going as we talk about week one of Called: ''I Love My Body.''
I want you to cheer for the team of Edge Church just as you cheer for your favorite NFL football team, or as you cheer for your favorite team, whatever it may be. I hope you will cheer and root Edge Church on every step along the way. When we win, the church wins, and when the church wins, our community wins. The world becomes a much better place when the church is doing what God has called it to do.
The word church in the language of the New Testament means called. It means the ecclesia, the called-out ones. To be in the church and to be a follower of Jesus is to be called by God. A calling is something that is not casual. A calling is something that is deep down in your spirit, deep down in your gut, deep down in your soul. When God calls you to something, you can't quit. Even when you are discouraged, even when you are disheartened at times, even when you don't know what to do, or when you're called, you stay in it. You stay in a marriage that's difficult because you're called. You stay in the game as a parent because you're called. You stay in a vocation, in a ...
