Positive Prayers (2 of 5)
Series: Good Vibes
Ryan Heller
Daniel 9:1-23
Last week we kicked off this series called Good Vibes. Today we want to feel some good vibes in this place of prayer. I hope God will speak to your heart today. Let's open our Bibles to the ninth chapter of Daniel, over in the Old Testament, as we look at part two of our Good Vibes series.
Last week we talked about positive problems; today we're going to talk about positive prayer. Problems can be good, because they point us to God. Also, prayer is part of feeling the good vibes. If we want to feel good vibes, we need to be people of prayer.
Most people believe that prayer is a good thing. Most people think you should pray. Most people want to pray. But if we're really honest with ourselves, most of the time we don't necessarily do what we think should be done. A lot of our prayer life is limited to, ''God bless me with a parking place,'' or ''God, thank you for some food,'' or, ''God, help me not to get caught,'' or, ''God get me out of this mess.'' Today God has something that is so much more profound to say to us about prayer. I believe one of the most exciting journeys in your spiritual life can be found on your knees.
I want us to look at this ancient biblical character, Daniel, and some things he's going to teach us about prayer. First, sometimes people say things like, ''Okay, Pastor, I get that I should be praying and I should be a praying person, but why? Why should I pray?'' Let me give you some whys, because whys motivate us, don't they? When you pray, first of all, you're going to experience the love of God in your life. That's an important reason: your relationship with God. You're going to know God. God is going to build compassion in your heart. You start praying about something-you want to strangle somebody, and you start praying about it-and suddenly, God softens your heart. It all happens in prayer.
