1 Samuel 16:7-13
?God has a destiny for your life. God has a destiny for Edge Church. God has a plan. God has a purpose for our lives. It's our opportunity to find out what it is, and to join Him in that great discovery and journey. And it's not just where we're going; it's also how we get there.
During these few weeks, as we study the life of King David, we're going to be looking at destinations, and finding that purpose and that calling for God, and then pursuing it with all our hearts.
David was a fantastic leader. In fact, we know more about King David than about any other person in the Bible, except the Lord Jesus. We know chapter after chapter about this extraordinary leader and how God used him in profound ways. But it wasn't because David was born in a palace. David was a shepherd. He spent the early phases of his life out on the prairies. Many times, God does great things, but He starts them with humble beginnings.
When we had our very first Bible study at Edge Church, there were five people in our living room-Gena and me, and three others who were brave enough to come. Some of our neighbors thought we were spiritual weirdos because we had a church in our house. ''Who are those guys? And what's going on in there?'' But great things can begin small.
For King David, life started small. He was the eighth son of Jesse, and the most insignificant. He was the little brother, the runt of the litter. He was born in a tiny hick town nobody had ever heard of, yet God was about to do something amazing in and through his life. God had a destination for his life.
I never thought I would be in Aurora, Colorado, starting a new church. I didn't even know where Aurora, Colorado was until a few years ago. But the destination that God has had for Gena's life and mine has brought us here, and I am so glad He has, because I believe God has a bigger plan for your life than you believe ...
