James 3:1-12?
Antoine Yates was a resident of New York City. He was attacked by his Siamese cat, and he had to go the hospital because the wounds were so serious. When the doctor saw how much he had been clawed and scratched, some police officers were sent to his apartment, and guess what they found? This was not a demon-possessed Siamese cat. It was a 500-pound tiger. Antoine had snuck this cute cub into his apartment, and it had grown and grown and grown, and now it weighed 500 pounds. Wow. And this tiger was not alone. He had a roommate: a five-foot-long American alligator.

(Rumor has it that the reason the tiger attacked his owner was because he was cuddling with the alligator, and he felt left out. I don't know if it's true or not.) It's amazing how a wild beast-an alligator, a tiger-can be, living in an apartment.

The tongue is important; the Bible mentions it often. Last week, we looked at James 2, where the Bible says if you have faith, you have to have deeds. In James 3, the Bible says if you have faith, you must have words, and you have to have control over the tongue. When you are truly a follower of Christ, you have some discretion about the things you say and the things you don't say, because the tongue is wild.
Many of the greatest experiences in my life have been surrounded by things that have been said to me, like ''I love you,'' or ''You can do it,'' or ''I'm praying for you,'' or ''It's not over,'' or ''You can change.'' Those phrases stay in our mind, don't they? It's also true that some of the most hurtful situations in our lives have happene ...
