Open your bibles to Galatians 2. This is the last week in our Race and Responsibility sermon series. We've taken the time to sit in this national conversation concerning how to see, value, love, serve people who don't look, think, or act like us. People all around us of other colors, cultures, and countries. But we're not looking at it through the lens of politics, or sociology, or philosophy, but through the lens of theology. What does God, through His Word, say to Gospel Believers and Christ followers about Race, and Racism, and Prejudice?

What we've found is that the Bible has alot to say about it. We've learned that our flesh, that self-centered part of our hearts that we all still battle even after salvation, doesn't drift toward diversity but toward homogeny or sameness. We don't naturally seek out to be with people who don't look, think, feel, or act like we do. We feel most comfortable with people who are most like us. Why? Because it's easier. It's less work. It requires less effort, less patience, less selflessness, less accommodation, less compromise, right? The more that the people around us are like us, the more likely it is we will get what we want and feel good about it.

A. Think about it in a marriage setting---When you're dating before marriage, it's wonderful and refreshing that the other person is so different than you. You love the different perspectives and insights they have on the world, life, and family. But over time what do we spend much of our time doing with our spouse? Trying to get them to be like us, think like us, arrange the house like we want, eat what we like, chew their food like us, fold their clothes like we do, put the toothpaste in the correct spot, go to bed when we go to bed, watch what we like to watch, etc. Why? Because it takes alot of selflessness to let others be themselves completely and live how they like to liv ...
