CIT- Stephen was a man full of the Holy Spirit.

Proposition- Christians need to be filled with the Holy Spirit.

INTRODUCTION:

This morning is father's day. One of the best things about Father's day is that we get to watch what we want on TV. No chick flixs. No hallmark movies. No love stories or romantic comedies.

Ladies, you want to know what we want in a movie? Well, here is clip that shows just what we men want to see in a movie.

Our series of sermons on overcoming spiritual entropy has come to what I feel is the heart of what we need in our lives. If we are going to find new life, get unstuck spiritually, then we need the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We need the baptism and filling of the Spirit.

We will explore what it means to be filled with the Spirit. We will discover how to be filled with the Spirit, and finally we will see the incredible impact that the filling of the Spirit has upon our lives.

To do all of that, we will examine the life of a very prominent man in the book of Acts. One of the first six deacons in the church, a great preacher of the gospel, and the first martyr. Stephen's name means crown or garland. What a fitting name for a man so full of Jesus.

The key to understanding his life, is to understand this phrase: filled with the Spirit.

I want to challenge you to be filled with the Spirit this morning!

The filling of the Spirit is often misunderstood, esp. in Baptist circles. In fact, many Baptists and evangelicals seem afraid of the Holy Spirit and the filling.
