INTRODUCTION: Introduce series - Visionary, God's dream for your life and New Life Church. We will begin the process of opening up our membership after this series.
What is vision? George Baran - A clear mental image of a preferable future that is given by God. Vision is knowing where we are going and why. A visionary church has a clear picture of God/s purpose and direction and goes there. Visionary churches are made up of visionary people. Being a visionary person begins with a clear mental picture of where God is taking you. His big dream for you is to remake you into the very image of His Son.
In this first sermon on Visionary living I want to challenge you to have a vision for your life. God's vision of growth and change.
4 principles for Visionary living.
I) YOU ARE A WORK IN PROGRESS-VS. 12 ''Not that I have already attained.''; '' I do not count myself to have apprehended.'' Paul does not see himself as having arrived spiritually. He is probably combating some form of perfectionism. ILLUS: Building new buildings in churches. I can hardly drive a straight nail, but God has lead every church I have pastored to build. We watched the slab being poured, the walls going up, the roof, then the inside began to take shape. That's the idea here. Except that when it comes to spiritual maturity God's construction project is never completed in this life. Why?
- PAUL'S HONESTY Paul was honest with himself, he knew there were areas in his life still very much under construction!
Verse 12, ''Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected ..'' There it is! He realized that he had not spiritually arrived! Here is a man dissatisfied with his walk ... witness . ...
