INTRODUCTION:

ILLUS: Going on a trip with several of my kids. Our journey was about 5 hours. One of the younger ones wasn't accustomed to traveling. 4 Just before we got on the I12 He asked - how much further? Well, about 5 hours. Pretty soon - Are we there yet, No - we have about 4 hours and 45 minutes to go. Are we there yet? No - we have about 4 hours and 30 minutes to go. About half-way through - How much further do we have to go? We've driving forever!

All you parents have been there haven't you.

One of the things that makes a trip seem to take so long is not really knowing where you're going. It always seems to take longer to get there then it does to get home. Why? We know where we are going.

The problem with much of the church today is that we really have no idea where we are going. Remember our definition of Vision - Vision is a clear mental picture of where we are going and how we are going to get there. Christ has left us with his vision for New life.

Turn with me to Matthew 28:18-20

Jesus reveals his authority over the Church, his mission for the Church, and the power he provides for the Church to accomplish his mission.


- ONLY JESUS HAS THE AUTHORITY TO SET THE VISION OF NEW LIFE CHURCH -
Someone has to determine the destination.
For the Church, the determination is made by Christ.
Authority is exousia. The power to speak freely, the power of rule or dominion.

- HE HAS BEEN GIVEN COMPLETE AUTHORITY -
1) ''All authority'' and on earth''. Jesus is Lord. There is nothing outside of the sovereign control of Jesus Christ!
