Joshua 5:13-15


No doubt you've heard the old saying, ''If God is your co-pilot you need to trade seats.'' This saying is as true today as the day it was first uttered. God is nobody's co-pilot. God will never settle for second place. He doesn't come into our lives to make suggestions or to offer advice on occasional course corrections, He comes into our lives to take over. Have you ever noticed that when God controls our actions and activities things always work out a whole lot better?

Joshua and the people had crossed over the Jordan and come to Jericho, apparently an impregnable fortress. As he stood gazing up at the city's enormous walls, at some point, Joshua must have asked himself, ''What do I do now?'' It was at just about that time that God showed up to take over.

Joshua 5:13-15

13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, ''Are You for us or for our adversaries?'' 14 So He said, ''No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.'' And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, ''What does my Lord say to His servant?'' 15 Then the Commander of the Lord's army said to Joshua, ''Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy.'' And Joshua did so.

When the Lord showed up His message to Joshua was pretty clear. ''I'm here to take over!'' Joshua's response to this revelation would be absolutely critical to the health and welfare of his people.

JOSHUA ASKED THE RIGHT QUESTION

13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, ''Are You for us or for our adversaries?''
