Some have argued this point but I don't think there was any doubt in Paul's mind as to what was about to happen. In his mind his earthly race to which God had called him was about to be finished. His time of serving God on this earth was coming to an end and if anybody could be ready for such an event, Paul was. Think of all he had been through, all the disappointments he'd had to endure. Think also of all God had accomplished through him, most of which he was not even yet aware. The breath and scope of Paul's ministry can only be attributed to the supernatural. It must have been God!

I wonder how ready we'd be if we knew our race was about over? Considering all the uncertainties of life it might not be a bad idea to settle this issue today.

2 Timothy 4:6-8

6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

As we all know, there's ready and there's ready. I'm not sure Paul was ready to die as much as he was not afraid of death because he knew he could stand before God without shame. From that perspective he was ready to die. The question is, ''like Paul, will we be ready to call it quits?''

PAUL WAS READY TO GO BECAUSE HE HAD FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT

7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
