Psalms 23:1
Psa 23:1 KJV - [[A Psalm of David.]] The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want.

ALL I NEED TO KNOW
A Sunday school teacher gave his class an assignment to learn the 23rd Psalm by next Sunday, because each was going to recite it to the whole church. A little boy named Bobby, just couldn't get it all in his head, he struggled all week long.
Finally Sunday comes and the church is packed out, standing room only, and suddenly it's Bobby's turn to say the Psalm. His teacher whispered, ''O.K. Bobby it's your turn!''
Bobby is shaking like a leaf and sweating bullets, and then Bobby shouts, ''The Lord is my Shepherd...and that's all I need to know!''
In Psalms 23 the writer does not focus upon the nature of the sheep, but of that of the shepherd. This Psalm does not focus upon the feebleness of the sheep, but upon the faithfulness of the shepherd.
In today's assessment of shepherds and shepherding we have some ''urban myths'' as to shepherds being despised by society and social outcast. The bible never displays this sort of stigma upon shepherds.
In the bible we find that many of the biblical giants of Israel were shepherds:
- Abraham was a shepherd
- Moses was a shepherd
- David was a shepherd
In various verses we read of the Lord being the shepherd of his people:

Gen 49:24 KJV - But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty [God] of Jacob; (from thence [is] the shepherd, the stone of Israel:)
