I'm grateful to live in a nation and at a time that we have so much opportunity. - Think about the tech in the world today, the opportunity to earn income, to start a company, to build a platform. This is unique time to be alive!

However we do need to understand something. There are dangers that comes with affluence, wealth, with abundance. There is nothing wrong with having money btw... but we do need to understand the dangers we face.

Throughout the NT those with much are warned of the pitfalls involved with the love of money. We are told to be content with what we have, to be generous, to lay up treasures in Heaven, and so forth. One of the great idols and fuels for idol worship in our day is money.

In James 4:13-5:6 James addresses the affluent. He confronts their sin. It's very relevant in our day because compared to the rest of the world... we are by and large wealthy to different degrees. We have a lot of opportunity due to the affluence of our culture but also temptation to sin. So today, I want to share two dangers of affluence from James' teaching here. ?

13 Come now, you who say, ''Today or tomorrow we will go into such and such a town and spend a year there and trade and make a profit''- 14 yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. 15 Instead you ought to say, ''If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.'' 16 As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. 17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
