Saturday we celebrated the 244th birthday of the USA. I love our nation. There are many great things about our nation. Now, our nation is not perfect. It never has been. By the way, this side of the New Heaven and Earth there will not be a perfect nation/country. Every nation on the earth since the fall has been affected by sin. But we can get better, we have already.
Right now in our nation we are in a unique season.
It can be a scary at times to turn on the news. It can feel chaotic. Surreal. But listen... This pandemic is in this world because this world is fallen. Injustice and racism is in the world because this world is fallen. Riots, anarchy, and destruction exist because the world is fallen
Sin created brokenness, but God is still on the throne. - At the root of every person outside of Christ is a heart far from God, in need of His grace.
We live in a FALLEN WORLD. There is a world system... that has values, beliefs, morals... that are in direct conflict with God's will. The Bible speaks to worldliness... this idea of operating according to this sin marred system. Aligning with rebellious sinful man's ways... instead of God's. Aligning with Satan's ways, instead of with God's. It's at work in this world, our nation... and it's at work in the church.
James addresses worldliness in James 4. - The only hope for this world... is for people to recognize the fallen world we live in, our own sin... and to turn to Jesus and experience God's grace. - Today, James addresses those in the church to look inward... and allow God's grace to conquer any hint of worldliness in our hearts, and for those given over to worldliness, held captive to the broken world system... to come to God.
