Wisdom. It's a topic we come to from time to time in the Bible. Last week we learned we need to use wisdom with our words. But then the questions becomes what is wisdom, what does it look like? How do I know if I'm wise?
Nobody thinks they are foolish. - Especially a fool.
Prov. 12:15- The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.
Have you noticed in life some of the most foolish people you've encountered have been the most arrogan? The kind of folks that will stand in a burning building and swear the building is not on fire just so they don't have to admit they were wrong.
Have you noticed some of the most foolish decision of your life were made with a sense of arrogance: ''It will be different for me. You don't know me. I can handle this. I know what I'm doing. I won't let that happen.''
Pride/arrogance and foolishness tend to go hand in hand. Wisdom however is linked to humility as we will see today.
Today, James is going to teach us about wisdom. Did you know there is a false wisdom? You see foolish people, and foolish decisions many times are rooted in false wisdom. People proclaiming to be wise... yet proving they are not. As Rom. 1:22 says, ''Claiming to be wise, they became fools...'' - There is a false wisdom rooted in sinful foolishness. There is a true wisdom rooted in knowing God. - Look at what James says...
James 3:13-18- 13 Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. 14 But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. 15 This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. 17 But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceabl ...
