Series: Living Proof

John 11:4-6
I. Introduction
Welcome to Mission Hills, it's so good to have you with us today. I can't believe it, but we are wrapping up our Living Proof series today. Next week we'll start a new series that I'm really excited about called Travel Light. It's based on Jesus' teaching in Matthew 6 which asks basically three questions: where's your treasure, who's your master and what's your worry? And we're going to see why how we answer those questions has such a profound impact on the way we go through life. I think God is going to use it in really powerful ways in our lives...I also think it's a series that's full of truths that some people in your life would really benefit from hearing, so on your way out today, you'll see some series invite cards you can grab to invite someone to come with you starting next week.
But for today, we still have one more of Jesus' signs to look at. For the last couple of months, we've looking at seven stories of seven signs that Jesus performed. And we call them signs, rather than miracles, because they're not just proof of the kind of power Jesus has, they're living proof of the kind of person he is.
Now before we get into the story for today, I just want to tell you that what we're going to see today might be a little confusing when it comes to the kind of person Jesus is. It's a little confusing for me. Because on the one hand, we're going to see that Jesus is passionate about his people, but on the other hand, we're going to see that he sometimes allows pain into his people's lives when it serves a greater, good purpose. And that feels a little contradictory.
Now the thing is, when I'm an impartial observer, I get it. I totally get how Jesus, how God, can love someone passionately and still allow pain into their lives because it serves a greater, good purpose. When I'm an impartial observer - meaning, when it's not my pain - I can totally see how th ...
