The People We Need and the Person We Need to be (12 of 14)
Series: 2 Samuel
Robert Dawson
2 Samuel 19
I would say, for most people, when we look back over our lives, the two things we call to mind most readily are events, what happened to us, and people, those who experienced life with us. Of the two, the one that has most impacted us, influenced us, shaped us and brought us the greatest joy and deepest sorrow is the people that God has placed in our lives.
People are in an important part of our lives. They play a huge role in our lives. If you go back and review the life of David, which we have been looking at for several weeks, you will find those statements to be true.
Here, in what will be the last chapters of 2 Samuel and David's life, a number of people, some who have been with David through much of his life's journey but have remained mostly unseen by us, along with a few others making an appearance for the first time, are highlighted.
As we look at these people and think about our lives, what we'll find, is these same types of people can be found in our story as well. For good or bad, they all play a part in our lives. They serve a purpose in our lives, and we do in theirs as well.
As we walk through a few of these, (we will cover parts of a few chapters, you can read them on your own to fill in the gaps) see if you recognize how God has used people like this in your life.
By way of reminder, I want to provide a short recap of where we are in our story and how we got there...

- David, those loyal to him, and their families, fled Jerusalem and went to the fortress in Mahanaim, where Ishbosheth, Saul's son, had set up a rival kingdom to David's in the early days of David's reign.
- Absalom, with all those willing to fight, went out to battle against David's army. They lost and Absalom, whom Dav ...
