Father Abraham (1 of 4)
Series: Explicit
Craig Smith
Genesis 12-20
Introduction
Intro video - reading of The Life of Abraham from the Kids Bible. Scratch noise at end.
Transition: Welcome to Mission Hills. Wherever you are in the world, we're so glad to have you with us today. We're starting a new message series this weekend, called Explicit: Unfiltered Stories of God's Grace. And before we do anything else, let me just assure all the parents out there: we know that because of our circumstances right now, a lot of you have small children in the room with you. And I just want to say ''don't worry''. We're not going to use a lot of explicit language or descriptions and we're not going to give you a bunch of things to debrief with your kids afterwards, ok? We're going to keep it tasteful. We're going to keep it as PG as possible. But what we're not going to do is edit out all the uncomfortable parts of some very powerful stories from the Bible.
That version of Abraham's life that we just listened to...that's from a very popular Kids Bible, and I'm not knocking it. I understand exactly why they told the story like they did for kids. But most of us are not children and many of us are facing serious problems and we're in need of serious encouragement...which we don't always get from the cleaned-up, watered-down version of these stories. Sometimes the greatest encouragement God has for us comes from the most jacked-up parts of these stories. So we're going to take 'em like God gave 'em, explicit though they may be.
Why don't you grab a bible and start making your way to Genesis 12? By the way, I know that we've got a lot of young children watching, so I just want to let you know that while this is the Explicit series, we're going to keep it as PG as possible.
Now, if you're new to the Bible, here's three things you need to know about Genesis:
It's the first book of the bible, so it's super easy to find.
Second, it was written by Moses...the g ...
