Signs of the Times (Is COVID-19 a Sign of the End?)

In the world of television and feature film production there is a tradition followed by the main crew once the primary and final shots of the feature are done. The main crew gathers and the director recognizes each person by name. He concludes by saying, ''That's a wrap.'' At that point there is still much to be done before the film is ready for public consumption. There are still editing and post- production tasks to complete. The key content is ''in the can,'' but the essential ''must have'' elements remain. This helpful illustration by Dr. Mark Hitchcock give us an interesting way of looking at current events as they impact events of the future.
Recent events in relation to the Covid-19 pandemic, cause us to ask if we are approaching the end of the world and the return of Jesus Christ. Is everything ''in the can'' and is this ''a wrap?'' Specifically, is this Covid-19 pandemic(pan= world; demos= people) a sign of the end times? At the time of this writing(May 26, 2020) there are 5 million cases worldwide and 300,000+ recorded deaths.
In Matt. 16:1-4 Jesus rebuked the Pharisees because they could tell the weather by certain signs, but could ''not discern the signs of the times.'' Before the question in the sermon title is answered, perhaps it will be helpful to consider the whole subject of ''signs'' in the Bible.
