Longing to Worship
Stephen Whitney
Psalm 84
Why do you come to church? Out of habit because your parents brought you and now you are in the habit of coming? Or do you
come because you desire to personally worship the Lord?
Psalm 27:4 One thing I ask of the Lord this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple.
The tabernacle was the place where the presence of God dwelt with his people and it was there that his character was revealed.
- Holiness of God being separate from the people
- Forgiveness of sins through a sacrifice
- Blessings of God acknowledged through thanksgiving
Karen Mains in the preface of the hymnbook, Sing Joyfully wrote,
''Worship has been defined as being preoccupied with God. How
do we learn to become preoccupied with God? By cultivating intentionality. By deliberately turning our minds toward divine
preoccupation. Intentional worship means a worshipper is not going to church expecting that worship will just happen; but
intentionality means that a worshipper is going to church
determined to make worship happen.''
True worship comes from a heart that desires to honor God.

many lived long distances away so they could not attend regularly.
