The Power of Clarity (3 of 5)
Series: All Is Bright
Craig Smith
Matthew 5:14-16
I. Introduction
Welcome to Mission Hills. So glad to have you with us today. This is the last weekend before Christmas and it's the third weekend of our All is Bright series.
What we're doing in this series is pushing in on this command from Jesus. He said this to all his followers. He said, 14 ''You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 ''Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)
So Jesus told us that we are to shine. He commanded us to shine. To drive back darkness wherever we find it in the world. And the good news is that his light in us can do that, Darkness cannot stand against God's light. The bad news is that we have an Enemy that knows that, so his strategy is to feed us lies to keep us from shining.
So far in this series we've talked about the lie of ''I'm not enough'' and we've seen how that lie is destroyed by the Law of Contrast that says when everything is dark a little light makes a big difference. We've also talked about the lie of fear and the power of courage and we've seen that courage is what allows us to give fear a voice but never the final vote.
Today we're going to talk about the lie of confusion. See, if the Enemy can't convince us that we're not enough of something to make a difference and if he can't scare us into not shining, then his next tactic is to confuse us so that we don't know what to do.
Now this is something that I struggle with on a regular basis. Let me give you an example: every fall here at Mission Hills we go through the process of developing next year's budget. And it's always confusing, because we have limited resources and multiple opportunities. That's the so ...
