While We Wait (4 of 5)

1 Corinthians 12
I. Introduction
Welcome to all of our locations. We are on week number 4 of our equipted series where we're looking at all the ways God has gifted and quipped us to be on mission with him in the world.
Just in case you missed last week, let me catch you up on what we learned. What we learned is that the church runs on two rails: unity and diversity. Unity of purpose or mission and diversity of gifts that help us move forward towards that mission. If we have unity without enough diversity, we might be in agreement about where we're headed, but we won't have what it takes to get there. Think about a car that's missing three tires and an axel and an engine. All the parts that are there might be pointed in the same direction, but without those missing parts, the car's not going to make much progress towards that destination. But if we have diversity without unity, we're just going to have division. It's the unity of our purpose that allows us to benefit from the diversity of our parts.
But the truth is that unity and diversity don't coexist easily. They're very different things and unless we're very intentional about it, embracing unity will reduce unity and embracing unity will reduce diversity.
So what's the secret sauce? That's what we're going to take a look at today. Why don't you go ahead and grab a bible and start making your way to 1 Corinthians 12.
And while you're making you way there, let me just tell you that the principles we're going to learn today apply to any group of people. We're talking primarily about the group of people we call the church, but the principles that we're going to see today are equally important in our marriages and in our families. They apply in our neighborhoods and at work. They apply in our friend groups. They apply in our dating lives. Basically, anytime two or more people get together, there's the potential for conflict, because unity a ...
