I don't know about you, but my favorite part of any trip is the moment that I hand off my bags to the nice people at baggage check. I never really feel like I'm on vacation until somebody takes those bags off my hands and says, ''Hey I got this. We'll take care of this for you.'' I love that moment.

But, it's also the most stressful part of any trip, because I'm never really sure they're going to take my bags. 

I almost always go up to baggage check wondering if they'll say this one's too heavy. You've got too much stuff in here. Sorry...we're not gonna take it. This is legitimate fear. My family does not pack light. On more than one occasion, I've had the sinking feeling of putting my luggage on the airport scale and seeing the number go up to - and over - the weight limit. And then you hear the dreaded words: I'm sorry, but you're going to have to take some stuff out of there. We're only willing to handle this much...the rest of it's your responsibility. Listen, you have never really experienced embarrassment until you've had to pull underwear out of your suitcase and cram it into your laptop case while people in line behind you watch.

And I'm going to be brutally honest with you here and say that there have been occasions when I was worried that they were going to refuse to take my bag because the smell of coming from the stuff inside my bag. Now, I'm not saying this is a regular occurrence, ok? But on it least one occasion a couple years ago we were coming back from a weeklong canoe trip with my in-laws on the Buffalo river in Arkansas. It rained the whole time and by the time we got back to the airport in Little Rock to head home, everything we owned was moist, mildewed and muddy. It smelled, and I was honestly surprised when they took our bags.
