James has talked to us about trials, and temptations. This week he’s going to talk to us about the Word of God. – It’s the Word of God that we lean on in our trials, that wield like a sword in our temptations.

The key ingredient to a victorious, God glorifying Christian life... is how you deal with the Bible. – Believers are Bible people. NPC is a Bible teaching church.

ILLUS. – Covid-19- Now, whether you like to sound smart and call it Covid-19, sound normal and call it Coronavirus, or sound way too sure of yourself and call it “the rona.” – We all know what the keys have been to seeing the curve flattened with this virus... hygiene and social distancing.– In fact, you’ve heard so much about washing your hands and social distancing you are tired of. Man, I heard a country song last week about social distancing, and it was good!

Similarly, the Bible is basic to living a God glorifying life. It’s basic to Christian victory. It’s basic to growing in Christlikeness. We are Bible people.

In James 1:19-27 we have a section largely devoted to hearing and doing the Word of God. My goal today is get you to see how believers need to interact with the Bible.



James 1:19-27 – 19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. 21 Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
