How many of you like country music? I grew up listening to country. Back in the 70s, Mac Davis, sung a song entitled: ''Hard to Be Humble.'' [Sing]: ''Oh, Lord it's hard to be humble when you're perfect in every way. I can't wait to look in the mirror. Cause I get better looking each day. To know me is to love me. I must be a 'heck' of a man. Oh, Lord it's hard to be humble. But I'm doing the best that I can.''

Obviously, these lyrics are intended to be tongue-in-cheek amusing. However, they've become all too real and personal in our day and age of social media and selfies. As Americans, we've become a self-consumed people. It's not that we're primarily proud of our God, our church, or our country. We're primarily proud of ourselves! But let's stop and ask: What is one of the greatest keys to pleasing God? One word: humility. The apostle Peter was a recovering pride-aholic. Yet, after many failures and years of walking with his Savior, Peter learned to value humility, perhaps like no other apostle or ancient Christian. In 1 Pet 5:5b-7, Peter shares two challenges to cultivate humility. Now in case you're wondering: What does humility have to do with our series, ''Winning Over Worry,'' stay tuned.

1. Humble yourselves before others (5:5b). Peter is just leaving a section (5:1-4) on how elders should humbly lead. He then tacks on a command for young people to humbly submit to their elders (5:5a). Now, in 5:5b, Peter commands the entire church to be humble toward one another: ''and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another.'' Peter begins by focusing on horizontal humility and commands the church to clothe themselves with it. This is something that believers must do for themselves. In the same way that we teach our children how to tie their own shoes, believers must learn to clothe themselves with humility toward other believers. The term ''to clothe'' ...
