Daniel 5
Open your bibles with me tonight to Daniel chapter five, and if you are a guest tonight we've been going through the book of Daniel here on Sunday night. We've made our way to Daniel chapter five tonight, one of the more interesting and really, one of the more thought provoking and shocking stories in all of the book of Daniel.
This is a narrative. Daniel wrote Daniel chapter five himself based upon his own recollection of the account. This is not like last time where he's having to share with what he'd been told, but he wrote Daniel chapter five really, after looking back and thinking through what happened on that night. Somewhere around 539 BC. Daniel chapter five, beginning in verse one. You're about 32 years from the end of chapter four. About 32 years have lapsed since Nebuchanezzer's second dream and you have this guy here by the name of Belshazzar. Belshazzar the king there in verse number one. Belshazzar's name literally means God or BEL. ''BEL will protect me.'' That's very important as we begin to work our way down through these verses tonight.
He wasn't literally the son of Nebuchadrezzar. He was actually the son of a guy by the name of Nabonidus. Nabonidus served as ...
