Rest, that's a wonderful thing don't you think? It's a terrible feeling to be utterly exhausted with no end in sight. We've all had those times when our only choice was is to keep pushing ourselves along, hoping against hope that sometime soon we'll get a break. Maybe you're going through one of those times right now. That wouldn't be totally unexpected what will all that's going on these days. Need a little rest - need to ease your mind? God has a word for you. Today's message is that we can come to the Lord and exchange our burdens for His peace and rest.

Matthew 11:25-30 25 At that time Jesus answered and said, ''I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. 26 Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. 27 All things have been delivered to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father. Nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and the one to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.''

JESUS' INVITATION TO REST REQUIRES AN ACT OF THE WILL

28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

God's promise of rest is not unconditional. There is no heavenly rest for those who refuse to trust Christ for it. The idea of rest in this passage has to do with ''repose.'' It's exactly like the idea of lying in a hammock in your backyard on a day when the weather is perfect, without a care in the world. Who in their right mind wouldn't want some of that? I want it and so do you but coming to Christ and trusting Him for that heavenly rest is the condition that must ...
