Never Forget - A Memorial Day Message

The following message is a fully alliterated and illustrated sermon on the state of our nation. It is perfect for a Memorial Day service or a Citizenship Sunday, such as July 4th weekend.

An elderly woman asked her husband to get her some ice cream. She asked him to write it down. He said he didn't need to write it down because he would not forget her order. She asked for vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup, rainbow sprinkles with a cherry on top and a big glass of milk. He returned with a plate of grits, bacon, and scrambled eggs. She said, ''I knew you needed to write it down. I wanted my eggs fried!''

Another elderly couple, married 70 years, was mentoring some newlyweds. The old man kept calling his wife all sorts of pet names. When she went to the kitchen the young man said, ''It think it's great how you keep romance alive after all these years with all those pet names.'' The old man replied, ''It's really not that sweet. I forgot her name 3 years ago.''

Mark Twain said, ''If you tell the truth you don't need a good memory.''

But Twain also said, ''A clear conscience is the sign of a bad memory.''

One old codger said, ''I'm having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. It seems as if I've forgotten this before.''

Someone also said, ''One of the keys to happiness is a bad memory.'' That's true when it comes to offenses from others. That's NOT true when it comes to blessings from God.

When it comes to the blessings of heaven, spiritual amnesia is a very dangerous thing.
