2 Timothy 2:1-7
As most of you are aware, I've been in/around athletics all of my life either as a participant or coach. I began playing football/baseball when I was (5) and played both sports (and also wrestled) thru high school. I then went on to play baseball in college. On top of that, I've played just about every sport there is - from FB, BB, and wrestling to cross country, track/field, BB, rugby, tennis, handball, lacrosse, even cricket. I've even done a triathlon. I share this b/c when Paul speaks of a disciple in athletic terms - it resonates w/ me. I get it!

As we've discussed, to replicate means to reproduce a close/exact copy - an identical to the original - and this is the heart of the G.C - to help all people to become just like Jesus - an exact replication of Him by knowing Him as our Savior/Lord and following in His footsteps by serving as His hands, feet, and voice to reproduce Jesus in us into others.
This is what the Apostle Paul did for his protégé in the faith - Timothy. Paul invested the Jesus in him into young Timothy, and then commissioned and released Timothy to replicate the Jesus in him into the leaders and believers at the church in Ephesus.
Here in 2 Timothy 2, Paul offers a simple, yet concise, commission to his protégé sharing (4) faith metaphors to describe the qualities of a true, Jesus-follower - he or she is to be a mentor, soldier, athlete, and farmer.
You, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you've heard me say in the presence of many witnesses these entrust to reliable men who'll also be qualified to teach others. Join w/ me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ. No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer. In a similar way, a ...
